Joe Budden – Freedom Freestyle

The outpouring of emotion and art in response to the events of last week (the murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castille) have been almost overwhelming. Even though this is an ongoing crisis in America, the existence of damning video evidence seems to have elevated these two events to real game-changers. At least that’s the sense I get.

As you know, when Joe Budden gets it into his mind to tackle something, not only does he do it, he can overdo it. That’s usually a good thing, particularly when it ends up with him mercilessly laying down bars, and that’s the case here. On “Freedom Freestyle” he touches Beyonce’s instrumental to add his two cents to the conversation that has consumed this country, and man, did he go in.

Joe on the freestyle:

I was told there was once a world where slaves communicated with each other via music, and tho I wasn’t present for that, the Hip-Hop I fell in love with always encouraged me to do the same (Thank you Public Enemy)….
Let this act as an unfortunate reminder that times change and they don’t. #BlackLivesMatter #YallLivesMatter #OurLivesMatter … I’m afraid to wonder what happens when we as a people decide to stop saying it. Some deem us threatening now by sheer design. We are not. We are loving, passionate, cultured and proud, even during unrest. However, with every life viciously and maliciously taken by costumed evil, we grow more and more afraid. What will occur when too many of us are afraid? #IfYouDontValueMyLifeEYEWill
#GodHelpUsAll #TheMissionIsGreat
