One member of the Jersey City rap group P.M. Dawn has died at 46.

Prince Be, whose real name was Attrell Cordes, died at a New Jersey hospital on Friday from kidney disease, according to the group’s website.

“Prince Be Rest In Peace forever more, Pain from Diabetes can’t harm you anymore,” bandmate Doc G posted on Facebook.

P.M. Dawn, which they said was an “abbreviation of the idea that in the darkest hour comes the light,” was formed by Cordes and his brother Jarrett and became a prominent act in the 1990s.

One of the band’s best known songs, the 1991 hit “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss,” went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the group’s smooth mixture of hip-hop and R&B.

P.M. Dawn said on its website that its style influenced a wide range of their contemporaries, from Sting to Notorious B.I.G.

Fans and fellow artists such as Outkast’s Big Boi paid tribute to Prince Be on Friday night, remembering his ’90s success and praying for his family.
