NYC’s legendary DJ Big Kap has passed away. (45)

Today, unfortunately the hip-hop word lost another legendary player in the game. Big Kap, whose real name is Keith Carter, was found dead at the age of 45 in New York. As of now, no cause of death has been announced yet.

Kap is described as, “One of the most respected and well known DJ’s to ever step on the scene from Biggie to Shade45 BIG KAP is a true legend and pioneer in the hip-hop game.” He is most well known for helping launch Biggie Smalls’ career back in the 1990s. His last gig before is death was back in November, although he was booked the day he passed.

He will be missed! RIP Big Kap.

***Update***

Big Kap died today (February 3) because of a heart attack, his road manger Ab Traxx says during an interview with Billboard.

“I am really at a lost of words,” Ab Traxx wrote on his Instagram account today. “I just spoke to him at 1am recapping our week And plans. If i known this was the last time I was going to speak to him I would have told him so so much more…. You never know what life has in store for you you have to charish time friends and family you never know…… Gone but not forgotten…… #restinpeace #weloveyou #youwillbemisses#HighlyUniqueRadio #rip.”

Ab Traxx says that Big Kap was based in Atlanta and had was working on Internet radio station Highly Unique Radio and with the Burn Unit Crew. 

Ab Traxx also says he was unaware of any medical complications that would have led to Big Kap’s fatal heart attack.

“Not that I know of,” he says. “He had diabetes, but I don’t think it had anything to do with [his death].”
