Capital-Steez

Capital STEEZ of Pro Era, the hip hop collective led by standout upstart Joey Badass, reportedly has died.

Details are few, as the news has not been reported by official news agencies, but according to several websites, the 19 year old Capital STEEZ, born Jamal Dewar, died during the early hours of Christmas Eve. His passing was seemingly confirmed by tweets from Joey Badass and others in the crew.

The Pro Era (Progressive Era) crew recently released a full length mixtape, PEEP: The aPROcalypse, which was being well received, as the group has been riding off of the buzzing success of Badass. Capital STEEZ appeared on five tracks on the mixtape, which featured production by Statik Selecktah, among others.

Joey Badass’ tweets seem to confirm the passing of Capital STEEZ, stating, “This unfortunate xmas eve.. Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner. Letting go is never easy.. May ur soul rest in peace Jamal” and later, “part of me still doesn’t believe this.”

Several websites spreading the news have suggested the death may have been self-inflicted, referring to an ominous final tweet from Capital STEEZ’s Twitter account, stating simply, “The end.” Again, details of his passing have not been confirmed. We will update this story as more becomes known.

We send our condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Capital STEEZ and again, will update as more information comes to light.

Written! The Lyrics Of Grandmaster Caz

Grandmaster Caz is a Hip Hop pioneer who can genuinely be credited as one of the inventors of Rap, and now via The Lyric Book Company, his lyrics will be reproduced and published for the first time in Written! The Lyrics Of Grandmaster Caz. The book will be available November 19th.

Caz is perhaps best known as the writer of Big Bang Hank’s rhyme in Rappers Delight. The lyrics were stolen from him and he has never been credited or paid a dollar for writing the words to possibly the most famous Rap record ever.

Caz went on to join the legendary Cold Crush Brothers whose party rocking style would greatly influence many of Rap’s greatest MCs.

In 2012, Caz became the unexpected star of Ice-T’s seminal rap movie Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap. In the movie Caz receives props from many of the cast, including Ice-T, Rev Run, Rakim and Eminem, who cite him as one of the godfathers of Rap. As a result of the movie, Caz’s career is enjoying a significant renaissance.

Paul Toogood, one of the producers of Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap said: “It’s hard to describe the constant outpouring of love and respect that I have witnessed for Caz over the two years that it took to make our movie. Caz has been described as The Robert Johnson of rap; very little recorded music by Caz exists due to him being stuck in a restrictive deal for 20 years. The esteem in which he is held by his peers is quite extraordinary. When we interviewed Eminem for the movie he asked me, “Is this the same film that Caz is in?” I said it was and he said “Dope – let’s do the interview!”

Written! The Lyrics Of Grandmaster Caz is available for preorder at http://www.lyricbook.com and will be available on http://www.amazon.com and selected stores November 19th. #ShoutOut: http://www.HipHopGods.com
