Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun Expose NYPD Brutality, “I Saw Them Beat Up A Woman”

Posted in 1 on June 30, 2011 by bobbybounce

Rap veterans Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun have exposed the New York Police Department’s brutal approach to handling hip-hop fans following a raid during their album release party in Manhattan.

Rock hit up Twitter to describe what went down during Tuesday’s police brawl.

“Ok,here come everybody wit da bullsh*t rumors lol! Me and my family are fine, i didnt get touched by any cops, i know i cant stop people from makin up a story but this is not the type of publicity i wanted, not @ all and i didnt expect this to go down like it did! shame on those cops man! The cops were jealous of the good time! and no my wife didnt get beat up @ all lol. she was trying to calm her daughter and was protecting her from getting beat up by the pigs! she fell backwards on sum garbage bags im actually proud of my wifey man,she protected her daughter. Deez police are outta hand,i saw them beat up a woman. Lame and short, they were short smurfy cops, without badge and gun they soft!,” [sic] he tweeted June 28th. (Pete Rock’s Twitter)
General Steele also provided insight on last night’s spectacle.

“#NYPD are killers…I seen what you u did to that girl,” he tweeted June 28th.
“they beat that girl up.”
“police ran down some real live gang bang gansta sht tonight at the #Monumental Release at 11” (General Steele’s Twitter)
DJ Jay Diamond, who was in attendance, provided a rundown of what happened.

“There was a fight outside the club and it got really nasty. We had no idea what was going on in the club, like absolutely no idea,” Jay said in a video. “Everything just shut down and we were told to make our way out the building, and as we did so, mace was thrown into the building…Bascially all the NYPD turned up and fucked up Pete Rock’s wife, is what I heard, and his daughter in the car. There were artists on the floor being battered, women being battered…Instead of talking, trying to get people to move, they were saying, ‘F*ck off! Get off the block!'” (Lady Jay UK)
The event was to celebrate Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun’s new Monumental album release.

With Pete relegated to the beatsmith role–showing up to rap on only a pair of tracks–the Cocoa Brovaz invite a host of emcees to the party. Freeway appears on the deceptively titled “Roses,” Bun B spits over the dark piano stabs of “Feel Me,” and fellow BCC member Sean Price makes humorous quips (“Slave master/I sell white girl”) on the violin-driven “That’s Hard,” also featuring D-Block general Styles P. The zenith of Monumental, however, are Pete Rock’s backdrops as he is creatively all over the place, sprinkling vintage boom bap with a mishmash of mariachi, rock and even dancehall throughout the album. From the roller rink thump of the Hurricane G-guested “Do It” to the ragamuffin stylings of “This One,” a reinvigorated Pete is rather unique. Smh…..

Tech N9ne’s Camp Confirms Buttocks Shooting, “He Remains In Serious Condition”

Posted in 1 on June 27, 2011 by bobbybounce

Rap veteran Tech N9ne’s representatives have come forward to confirm reports claiming a performer on the current All 6’s & 7’s tour was struck by gunfire this morning in Nevada.

Speaking via a statement, N9ne’s camp detailed what reportedly transpired.

“By all reports, the victim was talking on his phone when he was approached by 6 individuals who had not been in attendance at that evening’s show,” the statement reads. “Shortly after, shots were fired and the victim was struck multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital where he remains in serious condition but is expected to recover.” Initial reports stated that the shooting took place “right after” Tech’s performance. The statement refutes that claim, saying the incident happened “nearly two hours after the show ended” and was “a random and senseless act of violence.” Police aren’t sure of the motive and believe close to 16 rounds were fired. (MTV)
N9ne’s camp also claim suspects in the shooting have been detained.

“By all reports, the victim was talking on his phone when he was approached by 6 individuals who had not been in attendance at that evening’s show. Shortly after, shots were fired and the victim was struck multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital where he remains in serious condition but is expected to recover. Not long after the incident took place, four suspects who had fled the scene on foot were detained and taken into custody by local law enforcement, including what appears to be the main suspect and shooter in the incident. No other info has been made available at the time of releasing this statement.” (XXL Mag)
Early Monday reports claimed the victim was struck in the buttocks.

One of the newest members of the performance by hip hop band “Tech N9ne” was shot in the buttocks in downtown Reno this morning. The show was nearly sold out according to the Knitting Factory’s web site. It was to feature performances by Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob, Jay Rock, Mayday, Stevie Stone, Tragedy. Police haven’t said if it was one of those performers who was shot, only that it was a recent addition and an opening act. (KOLO TV)
Outside of the shooting, Tech recently reacted to his All 6’s & 7’s solo album debuting at No. 4 with 55,800 sold copies earlier this month.

“It keeps getting bigger and bigger right before my eyes. Right when I’m thinking I’ve done a lot, a lot more comes. That’s a blessing, for real, because to be the only independent in the top five,” he said. “It was crazy. I don’t get no radio play or no video play, it was crazy. But my fans are insanely, crazily in love with me.”

Missy Elliott Reveals Thyroid Disease Struggles

Posted in 1 on June 23, 2011 by bobbybounce

Hip-hop star Missy Elliott has revealed that she has been suffering from Graves’ disease, an incurable autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid.

After keeping her condition private for years, the ‘Work It’ singer has disclosed that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2008. However, when she experienced a sudden loss of muscle control recently, Elliott admitted that she’s been undergoing treatment.

“I was [driving and] trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed,” the Virginia rapper-producer reportedly told ‘People’ magazine. “I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad — I couldn’t even use a pen.”

Elliott said she has endured several other debilitating hyperthyroid symptoms, including mood swings and hair loss, and has revealed that she turned to radiation treatment. The solution improved her condition, but cannot cure her of the disease.

“I’m 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) lighter because I’ve been exercising,” she continued. “My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”

While Graves’ disease is rarely life-threatening, it is five to 10 times more likely to affect women. Though almost 2 percent of the female population are known to have the disease, its causes are not known.

Elliott, who turns 40 on July 1, has been on the comeback since her diagnosis. She is working on new music with longtime collaborator Timbaland, and will be featured on the June 29 season premiere of VH1’s ‘Behind the Music,’ where she will reportedly further discuss her condition, as well as the sexual abuse she suffered as a child.

Lil Wayne Covers XXL’s July/August Issue, Says He’s Retiring

Posted in 1 on June 23, 2011 by bobbybounce

Wayne covers the July/August issue of XXL and announces in the cover story that he plans on retiring soon, maybe even after Carter IV drops.

“I’m bowing out still on top,” he says. “I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this bitch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Fuck!’ Yeah, nigga, I’m gone.”

Wayne saying being a good father to his children would be the cause for an retirement. “Honestly, this is the real truth,” he says. “I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else. I do this every day of my life, and I’m not about to stop, ’cause that’s the only way you can succeed in this business, is to do it the way I do it. I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the fuck I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready.

To which I say: bullshit. I think it’s a pretty safe bet that he’s not going anywhere, not for any significant amount of time anyway.

Ja Rule says he will put prison time to good use

Posted in 1 on June 18, 2011 by bobbybounce

Rapper turned actor, Ja Rule turned himself in to New York City officials Wednesday to begin a two-year prison stint on a felony weapon possession charge. He pleaded guilty in December 2010.

Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, will serve his time at an upstate New York Correctional Facility where he told the Associated Press he hopes to put his time to good use by obtaining his GED, learning to play the guitar, and writing a book. Prison officials will process the rapper at Riker’s Island before transferring him to another facility.

Atkins, who lives in a pricey mansion in Saddle River with his wife and four children, said he was disappointed with himself, but is ready to “man up” to what he has done to lead to this juncture in his life. MTV News reported.

Manhattan Criminal Court Justice Richard Carruthers gave the rapper a three-month reprieve before entering prison, against prosecutor’s wishes, after his lawyer requested additional time to resolve Atkins’ federal tax problems, the New York Daily News reported.

The one-time Grammy award nominee is facing additional prison time after he pleaded guilty in Newark Federal Court in March to failing to pay taxes on more than $3 million of income between 2004 and 2006. His lawyers are hoping the native New Yorker will serve both sentences concurrently. The government agreed to dismiss similar charges for unpaid taxes on income earned in 2007 and 2008 as part of a plea agreement. Sentencing on the tax evasion charges are set for this month.
The 35-year-old multi-platinum artist’ two-year prison term stems from a 2007 traffic stop on the Upper West Side of New York City for speeding. In addition to the registration being suspended, officers also discovered a.40-caliber Taurus pistol inside the 2004 luxurious Maybach that had the serial number scratched off. The rapper was leaving a concert where he performed alongside rapper Lil’ Wayne — who was also arrested that night on an unrelated charge — at the Beacon Theatre.

This is not Atkins first scrape with the law. In 2004, he pleaded guilty to assault after he punched a man in a Toronto nightclub, and received a $1,200 fine. The victim later sued the rapper and they settled out of court. On July 1, 2004, Ja Rule was arrested with Don Rhys for driving with a suspended license and possessing marijuana. According to his publicist, Courtney Barnes, Atkins sentence could leave prison six months early for good behavior.

N.O.R.E. & Capone Change Channels, CNN Breaks Up

Posted in 1 on June 10, 2011 by bobbybounce

New York rapper N.O.R.E. has formally announced the end of rap duo CNN (fronted alongside fellow Queens lyricist Capone), but promised that their separation does not affect their friendship.

N.O.R.E. said the lack of passion and energy to collaborate on another joint project motivated his decision.

“I’m not making another war report album or another N.O.R.E ALBUM IMMA MAKE THE 1st S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G album cause that what’s good for now…Diddy my homey can’t and would never diss him but he was known for anthems and hits it’s safe to say Khaled has been upholding that area…CNN was a great group…Time has changed I must move on…Doesn’t it hurt to watch a boxer still box when he’s heart isn’t in it that’s what the group feels like right now…Ok I’ve said way too much have no more to say I’ll hit u after the gym salute” [sic] (57th Ave)
He also hopped on Twitter to remind fans that Capone remains a close friend.

“We still homeys brothers family just we both need to do something different musically!!!,” N.O.R.E. tweeted June 9th. (N.O.R.E.’s Twitter)
Last year, N.O.R.E. and Capone joined Raekwon’s Ice Water record label to drop their The War Report 2 album.

“I want everybody to be clear. Its not that we signed as artists. The deal is structured, (Thug) Militainment / Ice Water, through EMI,” he explained in an interview. “We’re business partners, as opposed to artists. I don’t want people to get it confused. 50/50 partners. We figured lets merge so for this particular project, Militainment / Ice Water merger. Yeah, [just for War Report 2]…We figured why not? We were always cool and they had success in what they did. Me personally, I don’t really understand this independent game. I haven’t had much success independent that I had with a major.

Rounding things up in Sales Wrap this week is Capone-N-Nore’s War Report 2 which debuted at No. 104. After seven days in the books, the New York duo’s new album has sold 4,700 records.
