Wrestling Icon ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage Dies in Florida Car Accident (58)

Posted in 1 on May 20, 2011 by bobbybounce

Wrestling legend, snack pitchman and actor “Macho Man” Randy Savage died Friday in Seminole, Florida after losing control of his car while suffering a heart attack, his brother tells TMZ. Lanny Poffo says his brother was behind the wheel around 10 AM when the accident occurred. He was 58.

The Florida Highway Patrol later told the website that Savage and his wife, Lynn, were driving their Jeep Wrangler when the car veered across a concrete median, rushed through oncoming traffic and “collided head-on with a tree.”

Savage was taken to Largo Medical Center where he died, and Lynn was rushed to a different hospital, but survived with minor injuries. According to officials, both were wearing their seat belts and alcohol is not suspected. An investigation is underway.

The couple had just celebrated their 1-year anniversary on May 10.

Pro wrestler Randy “Macho Man” Savage, 58, was killed Friday morning in Florida when the Jeep he was driving jumped a median and hit a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Savage, whose real name is Randy Poffo, and his wife, 56, who lived in Seminole, Florida, were both in the car, officials said.

An investigation is under way, but a Highway Patrol report said that Ralph Poffo “lost control” of his 2009 Jeep Wrangler for “unknown reasons” as it was traveling westbound on Florida State Route 694 near 113th Street North in Pinellas County. His vehicle “traveled over the raised concrete median divider, crossed the eastbound lanes of SR-694, over the outside curb and collided head-on with a tree,” the report said.

His wife was in the passenger seat and was injured, officials said. Officials could not confirm the cause of Poffo’s death.

“WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, aka Randy “Macho Man” Savage,” the wrestling federation said in a statement. “Poffo was under contract with WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE and Intercontinental Championships. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn. Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans.”

Savage was known for his flashy entertainment in and out of the ring – including his catchphrases “Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh,” “Can you dig it?” and his Slim Jim commercials.

“We’re saddened by the loss,” ConAgra Foods, who oversees the Slim Jim brand said in a statement. “Randy was a beloved ambassador for the Slim Jim brand for many years and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.”

News Report on Savage’s Death:
His former colleagues and admirers in the wrestling business have already begun pouring out their grief, including tag team partner Hulk Hogan who took to Twitter to reveal he had just reconnected with his old friend.

“I’m completely devastated, after over 10 years of not talking with Randy, we’ve finally started to talk and communicate,” Hogan said. “I just pray that Randy’s happy and in a better place and we miss him.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted on Twitter: “You were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family.”

Shaun Michaels chimed in, saying “We’ve lost one of the greats!”

The man known to millions of fans for his flashy outfits, his “Oooooo Yeaahhhh” catchphrase and his feuds with countless rivals, Savage broke into wrestling in the early 1970s while at the same time playing minor league baseball under his born name Randall Poffo. After injuring his throwing arm he put the focus on pro wrestling.

“I traded my field of dreams for a ring of screams. Ooooh yeah!” Savage told the Chicago Tribune.

He picked the name ‘Randy Savage’ because a booker said his nickname at the time — ‘The Spider Friend’ — didn’t him suit since he “wrestled like a savage.” In 1985 he signed up with Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation and quickly became one of the league’s more popular figures. His match with Ricky Steamboat in 1987’s WrestleMania III is still considered one of the greatest ever.

Some of Savage’s signature moves over the years included the Atomic drop, the hair-pull hangman, jumping knee drop, piledriver and the vertical suplex.

Some of Savage’s most memorable moments involved his manager and real-life wife, “Miss Elizabeth” Ann Hulette. Though they were officially married in 1984, the WWF staged an elaborate “wedding” for the pair at Madison Square Garden in 1991. A year later they divorced and she died of a drug overdose in 2003 at the home of her boyfriend, Lex Luger.

Savage also tried his hand in other forms of entertainment throughout the years, most notably as the celebrity spokesman for Slim Jim beef snacks dating back to the mid-1990s. “Snap into a Slim Jim, oooooh yeah!”

His acting career included the role of wrestler Bonesaw McGraw in the 2002’s ‘Spider-Man’ and most recently he was the voices of “the thug” in Disney’s 2008 animated film, ‘Bolt.’ Savage also showed up in several TV shows as himself, in ‘Mad About You,’ ‘Baywatch’ and ‘The Jeff Foxworthy Show.’ R.I.P. Posted in 1 on May 20, 2011 by bobbybounce

Former Cash Money Records rapper Christopher “B.G.” Dorsey is reportedly facing up to ten years behind bars after being indicted by a federal grand jury this week on gun-related charges.

Details of the indictment landed online Thursday (May 19) evening.

Christopher Dorsey, 30, who raps under the moniker B.G. or Baby Gangsta, was charged in a three-count indictment with being a felon in possession of a firearm and conspiracy to obstruct justice, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Jim Letten’s office. If found guilty, Dorsey faces up to 10 years in prison, according to Letten’s office. (NOLA News)
Last year, B.G. stated his innocence by pleading not guilty to the gun charges.

B.G., a prominent local hip-hop artist and longtime collaborator with superstar Lil Wayne, pleaded innocent to a gun charge Thursday (February 11) in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. Christopher Dorsey, 29, who raps under the moniker B.G. or Baby Gangsta, was arrested with two other men in November for allegedly possessing three weapons, along with loaded magazines and two extended clips, while driving in eastern New Orleans. Police said two of the three guns had been previously reported stolen. (Times-Picayune)
B.G. previously addressed the arrest and said he did not possess a firearm when busted in fall 2009.

“The bond, [the court] wanted to set it at a 100,000 [dollars] because of my record,” B.G. explained in an interview. “But the bond end up being like 50,000…[And] so I got my other little partna [Demounde] out of jail, and he gonna sign the affidavit saying that none of [us] had no knowledge that the guns was in the car so my man [Jerod’s] parole officer can come sign him out…”As of right now…I don’t know how the guns got in the vehicle. For all I know the police coulda put ’em in the vehicle. But when I got in the vehicle, the guns wasn’t in there.” (Hip Hop DX)
He was reportedly busted during a routine traffic stop by police in early November 2009.

Police arrested B.G. Tuesday night following a traffic stop in which officers recovered three guns, two of which were reported stolen, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Dorsey, 29, was booked with illegal carrying of weapons. He appeared in magistrate court Thursday morning, but the status of his incarceration, such as bond information, was not listed Thursday night in electronic court records maintained by the Criminal Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, the late rapper’s girlfriend said a man living within their California complex was extremely jealous over M-Bone’s success with Cali Swag.

The girlfriend — who is scared and does not want her name used — confirms M-Bone was in a Twitter war with the jealous man, which we previously reported. Later that night, at around 10PM, M-Bone took her car and said he was going to the studio to record. Following his death, producer Jermaine Dupri reflected on the impact M-Bone and Cali Swag had on the West Coast region.

“That’s my most significant memory about him…he was one of the main dudes who brought the dance back to them. The dance originated in Dallas and was brought to Cali. The members of the group are not from where the dance is from. He was the one who was really killing the Dougie.” (RapFix)

Jadakiss Wants ‘King Of New York’ Status, “That Sh*t Would Be Crazy”

Posted in 1 on May 15, 2011 by bobbybounce

The LOX’s Jadakiss recently talked about taking his career to the next level by moving into acting and why he sees himself playing the role of Christopher Walken from the 1990’s cult classic, King of New York.

Known for inspiring the Notorious B.I.G.’s fictional drug kingpin moniker, Jada said his ideal role would be playing the part of Frank White.

“King of New York. Just replace Christopher Walken with me. Keep everything the same. It’s just me. Picture me instead of Christopher Walken. That sh*t would be crazy. You got to redo the whole King of New York with me.” (VIBE)
Last year, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj said her dream role would be in a Tim Burton film.

“I’d like to play someone in a Tim Burton movie, where I get dressed up and painted and crazy,” Minaj reveals within her cover feature interview. “Then I want to be able to do some action stuff, like Angelina Jolie…And then I’d like to just play a regular girl who, you know, is facing the world. Something really sentimental and organic, that girls all around the world can identify with. You know, how Jada Pinkett Smith did in Jason’s Lyric.” (KING)
In summer 2010, Drake envisioned himself playing the role of United States’ President Barack Obama.

“I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. That’s the goal [laughs]. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions. Slowly but surely, I’m not in the study mode because nobody’s called me about anything, but I just pay attention so when the day comes I’m not scrambling to learn how to speak like him. I want to be involved in great film projects. I don’t want to do the basketball movie that everyone does. I don’t want to do the typical black film that everyone expects. I think that I have enough experience to actually be involved in a real meaty project full of substance.” (Paper Mag)
Outside of acting dreams, Dipset A&R Duke Da God recently talked to SOHH and named Jada SOHH Underrated.

“I think he most underrated person in hip-hop right now is probably Jadakiss. Speaking on a mainstream level, I gotta sayJadakiss. I’m going to tell you real quick why I feel he’s the most underrated out there. Jadakiss is the “nicest” of the “nicest” but he’s not getting all that attention. He’s lyrically better than anybody and everybody but something just doesn’t connect with the mainstream. He’s the nicest out of everybody rapping. I think he’s very underrated and he should have more marketing dollars spent on him because he’s better than everybody.” (SOHH Underrated)

Cassidy Arrested In New Jersey, “Consider This Person Armed & Dangerous”

Posted in 1 on May 15, 2011 by bobbybounce

Philadelphia rapper Cassidy has reportedly been arrested by New Jersey cops Saturday (May 14) while traveling in the Garden State on an arrest warrant.

Details of his arrest landed online late Saturday evening.

The Philadelphia Police warrant squad called the Hackensack Police Department on Saturday morning to tell officers there was an open warrant for Hackensack resident Barry Reese, also known as the rapper Cassidy, Hackensack police Lt. Timothy Lloyd said. The warrant was for violating probation, but Reese is also a suspect in a murder and two attempted murders in Philadelphia, Lloyd said. Philadelphia police knew from a prior investigation that the rapper lived in Hackensack, Lloyd said. (North Jersey)
Cassidy was reportedly caught off guard when approached and arrested.

Philadelphia police told their Hackensack counterparts “to consider this person armed and dangerous,” and this was a “high-risk warrant,” Lloyd said. Officers from the Hackensack Police Emergency Response Team and the police department’s juvenile bureau watched Reese’s home Saturday on Reilly Court, Lloyd said. Reese left his house about 1:30 p.m. and was followed by police to a local convenience store, Lloyd said. An undercover ERT officer went in the store and positively identified Reese, he said. When Reese came out of the store, “the ERT units moved in and conducted a felony motor vehicle stop,” Lloyd said. Reese “was very surprised,” Lloyd said. The officers who arrested the rapper “did an outstanding job,” he said. “Without the proper teamwork going on, this could have spiraled out of control quickly.” No one was injured in the arrest, Lloyd said. Reese, 28, will be brought to the Bergen County Jail Annex to await extradition to Philadelphia, Lloyd said. (North Jersey)
Cassidy’s last Twitter remark was made on Thursday (May 14).

“@erexthetraveler whassup wit u? Is everything good?” (Cassidy’s Twitter)
The Philly rapper recently spoke to SOHH and talked about his underrated status as an emcee.

“I feel like I’m the most underrated rapper in hip-hop. I know I do have a certain level of success, but I don’t feel like I get the respect from the world. I don’t feel like I get that respect from the mass amounts of people out there like I should. I don’t feel like I get as much radio play as I should. I don’t feel as though my music videos get played as much as they should. I don’t feel like I sell as many albums as I should. I don’t feel like I’m getting the right amount of endorsement deals and reality shows and TV shows and movies that I should be getting. I don’t feel like I’ve been branching off of my career as I should.” (SOHH Underrated)
