Shyne Covers XXL (September 2010)

Posted in 1 on July 20, 2010 by bobbybounce

Lord have mercy, Jesus Christ. Despite the string of underwhelming tunes, Shyne covers one half of XXL‘s September issue. The other features Young Jeezy. In an excerpt given to MTV, Po speaks on shootin’ the club up a decade ago.

“In my life, when I make decisions to roll, I roll. And I don’t give a fuck what the consequences are. If I’ma defend myself, I’ma defend myself. If somebody tryna kill or hurt one of my partnas or my comrades, that’s with me, there is no, ‘Yo,’ or, ‘Damn, well, if I pull this shit out, this is what’s gonna happen.’ No! I don’t wanna die. I don’t wanna be laid up in no fucking hospital with a tube runnin’ through me, hurtin’ and sufferin’. Pain is real. So you know what? I’m not doin’ that. You gon’ do that, motherfucker. You gon’ roll and say hi to Satan, not me. And that’s that. Your survival instincts tell you to protect and preserve, and you deal with whatever later.”

Storm hits hard in upstate new york: ‘It would have killed us both’

Posted in 1 on July 19, 2010 by bobbybounce

UTICA — Henry Simard and Nick Jones smiled Sunday even as a large section of a tree was still lying across their smashed cars.

Taking the glass-half-full view, they were simply glad the tree didn’t land on their house instead during a storm Saturday night.

As Simard, 32, and Jones, 28, stood in front of their residence at 209 Deerfield Drive East in North Utica, they spoke to a neighbor whose street had seen no such damage.

“I’m happy the tree fell this way,” Jones said to the woman, pointing first at the cars then at the house. “If it fell that way, it would have killed us both.”

The storm that struck the area Saturday night left a particularly large amount of damage on a stretch of Deerfield Drive East. Neighbors of Simard and Jones who didn’t want to comment were having branches cut off a tree that had been cracked, and other branches lined the street.

As of 8 p.m. Saturday, 8,000 households in Oneida County and about 250 in Herkimer County were without power, according to the National Grid website.

By Sunday afternoon, no households in Herkimer County remained without power, and fewer than five households in Oneida County were waiting for power to return, according to the website.

Simard and Jones said they believe the damage in their area was caused by wind because they didn’t see any marks from lightning.

Jones said his red Dodge Intrepid took the brunt of force from the segment of tree that fell. The vehicle is likely to be a total loss because of the damage, which included a caved-in roof. It was unclear how severe the damage was to Simard’s dark gray Saturn Aura.

Sunday afternoon, the two had already cut off portions of the tree.

When they first became aware of the damage Saturday night, Simard and Jones had different reactions, they said.

Simard, who had been sleeping, couldn’t believe what happened. Jones, 28, who had been watching television and heard whipping wind and a loud noise, instantly found humor in the incident.

“I laughed hysterically,” Jones said.

“He laughed, and I was in shock,” Simard said. “It was surreal.”

SHOUTS OUT to hank and nick thank god you guy”s are okay. wow

New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner dies, aged 80

Posted in 1 on July 13, 2010 by bobbybounce

The New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, left, with manager Joe Torre after winning the 1998 World Series.

George Steinbrenner, who rebuilt the New York Yankees into a sports empire with a mix of bluster and big bucks that polarised fans all across America, died today. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday on 4 July.

Steinbrenner had a heart attack, was taken to St Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, and died this morning, a source close to the owner told AP.

The Steinbrenner family confirmed his death in a statement issued by the Yankees. “He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again,” the statement read.

For more than 30 years, Steinbrenner lived up to his billing as “The Boss”, a nickname he earned and clearly enjoyed as he ruled with an iron fist. The Yankees won 11 American League pennants and seven World Series titles during his 37-year reign.

He was known for feuds, clashing with the Yankees great Yogi Berra, and firing the manager Billy Martin twice. But as his health declined, Steinbrenner let sons Hal and Hank run more of the family business.

Steinbrenner was in fragile health for years, resulting in fewer public appearances and pronouncements. Yet dressed in his trademark navy blue blazer and white turtleneck, he was the model of success.

Until the end, he demanded championships. He criticised the manager Joe Torre during the 2007 play‑offs, then let the popular manager leave after another defeat in the opening round of the 2008 post-season play. The team responded last year by winning another title.

His death was the second in three days to shake the Yankees. Bob Sheppard, the team’s revered public address announcer from 1951-07, died on Sunday at the age of 99.

Steinbrenner’s death casts a shadow over Major League Baseball’s annual All Star game, due to be held later today in California at the home ground of the Los Angeles Angels.

R.I.P. Legendary New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and Bob Sheppard, New York Yankees legend and voice of the Bronx Bombers…….Rest in peace

Record-breaking year for the Boilermaker 2010 road race!

Posted in 1 on July 12, 2010 by bobbybounce

UTICA, N.Y. – Boilermaker 2010 is now in the history books and it was a memorable one at that with multiple records broken.

Going into the morning, we knew that a record-breaking field would be participating and taking to the streets of Utica. 13,089 runners registered to be part of the 15 Road Race, making it this biggest Boilermaker in history. 11,524 runners finished the race, which is again record-setting.

That record was broken at the start line but two records were also broken at the Finish Line. Both the men’s winner and women’s winner set course records for finishing times.

Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won the Boilermaker Road Race and set a new course record in the process. Desisa ran the course in 42 minutes, 46 seconds. He broke the old record by a mere 8 seconds.

Edna Kiplagat of Kenya won the women’s division of the Boilermaker 15K, setting a new course record time. Kiplagat’s time was 47:56, beating the old record which was set in 2001 by Catherine Ndereba.

According to Medical Director Dr. John DeTraglia, only about 100 patients were treated at the medical tent. Mostly were heat-related but doctors saw a few sprains as well. DeTraglia noted that the recovery times have been quick. 10 people were transferred to local hospitals for further treatment, but none were serious.

The Boilermaker saw some celebrities along the course. Senator Chuck Schumer made an appearance at the Finish Line in order to greet the incoming runners.

Also, Syracuse University football coach Doug Marrone ran the 5K Road Race.
Big shout out to all the runners at the race! Congrats to all! =) See ya next year!
